SusFreight focuses on the Alps as a natural bottleneck for transport flows. Constantly growing transport volumes challenge the existing infrastructure. Congested roads have an extreme impact on the environment and people’s well-being. Besides road and tunnel extensions such as the Brenner Basis and Gotthard-Tunnel, additional measures have to be adopted in the long run to increase the effectiveness and sustainability of freight transport across the Alps.
The project SusFreight is to be regarded as an interface between the old and new funding period. Along these lines, the project consortium aims to have close cooperation between stakeholders and institutions from the alpine area to collect comprehensive expertise before publishing its recommendations for the new funding period, which will make them even more valuable.
