The Public Transport Authority Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) is a publicly owned body whose shareholders are both the German Federal States Berlin and Brandenburg as well as the counties of Brandenburg. Around 4 Mio. passengers use the public transport services of the currently 38 transport operators in the metropolitan region of Berlin-Brandenburg every day. In cooperation with those operators, VBB is responsible for an integrated tariff system, an integrated traffic planning, revenue sharing, tendering and controlling of railway contracts as well as a common overall customer information.

For the latter, VBB operates the official public transport travel information system for both Federal States incl. real-time and disturbance information as well as mobile ticketing. Especially concerning customer information, our work does not directly end at the borders of our region: passengers travelling to/from the German Capital area need an integrated door-to-door travel and ticketing information, no matter where they are coming from. Therefore, our travel planning systems are connected to other travel planning systems, such as the German DELFI network or (among others) the Scandinavian services of Rejseplanen, Skånetrafiken etc. via the European EU-Spirit network. Projects like Scandria2Act give VBB the opportunity to intensify the cooperation with such partners and to work on further developments together. Currently, digital topics and trends are right on the top of everyone’s agenda: How can digital solutions help customers when disturbances in public transport occur? And how can we develop and coordinate a state-of-the-art digital ticketing solution – seamless at best?

"In order to succeed and learn from each other, exchanging experiences and establishing a close future cooperation can help all partners and eventually all passengers to improve public transport services, to make their usage more comfortable and reliable and – as a result – foster a modal shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly travel behaviour. That’s why we support the Scandria®Alliance as a basis for future cooperation." says Susanne Henckel, CEO of VBB GmbH.
