As the southernmost Swedish region, Region Skåne is a gateway to Sweden and Scandinavia from the European mainlands. Region Skåne is responsible for healthcare and public transport, business development, culture, infrastructure, social planning and environmental and climate-related issues in Skåne. The elected politicians has 1.3 million inhabitants in 33 municipalities to answer to. By virtue of its strategic location, Region Skåne has wide-ranging involvements with neighbouring regions such as Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein in Germany, Western Pomerania in Poland, with Denmark in the Öresund/Greater Copenhagen area and in the Baltic Sea region to strengthen Skåne’s development. The Regional Development Strategy has been elaborated in collaboration with municipalities, authorities, universities, business organisations, the ideas-based sector, inhabitants and other parties working with development issues and formulating and creating a broad consensus as to a joint goal: “The Open Skåne 2030”. The goal is reflecting on the need for Skåne to strengthens cooperation between different actors in a European and global context. To be a strong, sustainable growth engine - one of five priorities - Region Skåne together with partners is enabling the deployment for clean fuel infrastructure, improving cross-border public transport as well as optimising multimodal freight transportation.
