On behalf of Region Skåne and Eastern Norway County Network in early 2021 Evig Grønn AS assessed the current market development in clean fuel vehicles and infrastructure deployment. The assessment is based on data provided by the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) as well as national statistics from Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.
The investigation revealed, that since 2018 new registrations of clean fuel passenger vehicles doubled every year. However, the share of clean vehicles in the total vehicle stock is still below 5% except for Norway.
Similar dynamics can be observed in the market for light and heavy-duty vehicles. In consequence, clean fuel infrastructure is more intensely exploited, which locally and temporarily leads to bottlenecks, especially for charging infrastructure.
The observations confirm, that transition to climate-neutral mobility needs to be further incentivised to boost the clean fuel vehicle market and to keep-up with the infrastructure deployment.
Whereas the market for battery electric passenger vehicles is becoming more and more mature, opportunities for light and heavy-duty vehicles as well as for hydrogen need to be exploited more intensely in future.
