Study recommends a network of battery-charging and hydrogen-refuelling stations across the TEN-T corridors

In July 2021, the European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism published a study about alternative fuel infrastructures for heavy-duty vehicles.

The study points out that decarbonization of truck fleets provides an important potential to reduce GHG emissions and to reach the EU climate goals.

It recommends a policy shift from CNG and LNG to infrastructure for battery electric trucks, hydrogen as well as further investigation of Electric Road Systems.

It furthermore points towards specific requirements for charging infrastructure, amongst others the need, to adapt the power grid and its capacity.

The authors call for a stable long-term policy framework and a targeted, uniform approach.
